Employment Advice

NYFVO has a full-time Employment Advice team offering information and support to the voluntary and community sector in York and North Yorkshire. We understand the difficulties faced by voluntary and community organisations in employing and managing staff. The Employment Advice team have considerable knowledge and experience of employment law and practice and we are here to help anyone involved in the running and management of voluntary or community organisations in North Yorkshire.

Advice

We can provide free one-to-one advice by telephone, email or in person on matters as diverse as recruitment and induction, contracts, disciplinary and grievance procedures, sickness absence, equality and diversity, discrimination, and the so-called “family-friendly” rights (such as parental leave, the right to request flexible working and maternity, paternity and adoption leave).

Information

Guidance Notes drafted by the Employment Advice team on a range of employment topics are available to download below. The Employment Advice team also provides regular updates on changes to employment law and practice in NYFVOnews (NYFVO newsletter) and on NYFVOnet.

Training

We can provide low cost, high quality training courses on any aspect of employing and managing staff in a voluntary and community organisation, at venues across York and North Yorkshire. If you have a training need, we will try to meet it. Our current training profile (which can be added to and amended on request) includes sessions/ and workshops on:
- contracts of employment
- recruitment andselection
- induction andsupervision
- managing absence
- disciplinary and grievance procedures
- fair andunfair dismissal
- “family-friendly“ rights
- stress at work
