ICT advice
The ICT Advisors are available to help any voluntary or community organisation
within York and North Yorkshire with any aspect of their ICT systems.
The level of ICT (information and communication technologies) in use within
the sector is growing and ICT can be used to provide significant benefits.
It can also be a significant problem when things don’t go according
to plan. The level of frustration with providers of ICT equipment and
support is quite high and we try to provide a link to providers in the
local areas that will provide a good value service. We can also offer
consultancy support for ICT projects large or small, giving a fresh perspective
to projects that may require specialist knowledge in order to reach their
full potential.
The main aims of the role are:
- To provide advice on Information and communication technology to
voluntary organisations within York and North Yorkshire
- To provide professional plain English advice on issues relating to
ICT planning, strategy, security and housekeeping
- To provide assistance to negotiate technical support delivery and
provide liaison with support providers
- To establish the current level of service provided by support organisations
within the sub-region and to build up a collection of providers that
are reliable and cost effective for the voluntary sector
- To act as a point of reference for voluntary sector organisations
regarding ICT issues and legislation.
Projects to date include:
- Consultancy support and development of an advocacy database to develop
meaningful data, improve efficiency and enable automated extraction
of monitoring data to justify funding needs
- Advice on specification of new systems and infrastructure requirements
for organisations moving premises or building new premises, including
advice on data cabling requirements, communication systems and internet
connectivity
- Developing a proposal for implementing a remote working environment
to enable the connection of up to 50 remote users to one organisation,
to provide increased efficiency and an effective working environment
- Developing a system proposal for a new multi-use ICT system for a
new voluntary organisation, so that they can plan their funding arrangements
and use the proposal to apply for specific ICT funding
