Employment Advice
NYFVO has a full-time Employment Advice team offering information, advice and support to the voluntary and community sector in York and North Yorkshire. The Employment Advisers understand the difficulties faced by voluntary and community organisations in employing staff. The Employment Advice team have considerable knowledge and experience of employment law and practice and are here to help anyone involved in the running and management of voluntary or community organisations in North Yorkshire. We can provide free one-to-one advice by telephone, email or in person on a wide range of employment matters, as diverse as recruitment and selection, contracts, disciplinary and grievance procedures, sickness absence, equality and diversity, discrimination, and the “family-friendly” rights (such as parental leave, the right to request flexible working and maternity, paternity and adoption leave).
Information
Guidance Notes drafted by the Employment Advice team on a range of employment topics are available to download from the Guidance Notes section. The Employment Advice team also provides regular updates on changes to employment law and practice in ‘Forum Focus’ (the Forum’s magazine) and on NYFVOnet. Latest updates will provide the most up to date information on various topics and aspects of employment legislation.
Training
We provide low cost, high quality training courses on any aspect of employing and managing staff in a voluntary and community organisation, at venues across York and North Yorkshire. If you have a training need, we will try to meet it. Our current training profile (which can be added to and amended on request) includes sessions/ and workshops on:
- introduction to employment rights
- contracts of employment
- recruitment and selection
- managing absence
- disciplinary and grievance procedures
- fair and unfair dismissal
- Parents and carers under employment law
- “family-friendly“ rights
- discrimination in employment
