VCS Common Database and www.vcsdirectory.org.uk
The Forum uses the VCS Common Database to maintain its records of voluntary and community organisations working in York and North Yorkshire and other relevant contacts. The York & North Yorkshire VCS Infrastructure Consortium have been working together to create a common database of voluntary and community organisations in the sub-region over the last couple of years. The purpose of the common database is to improve the delivery of support and services from infrastructure organisations to front line organisations, and provide the voluntary and community sector with improved access to development and funding opportunities by combining those database records. The database will be used to compile mailing lists for circulating newsletters, training, events etc; contain details of general contacts; and administer events, training and services e.g. membership, networks, and activities. The actual database will not be accessible to anyone outside of the Infrastructure Consortium; there is a searchable web directory of VCS organisations which runs from the database - this can be accessed by anyone on the internet and onlys displays records that have given their permission to be listed and can provide details on organisations, including the contact person, address, telephone, fax, email, website, and aims/objectives (but will depend on what organisations have given their permission to display).
